VOLLEYBALL: Du Quoin rallies to beat Pinckneyville

DU QUOIN, IL - Du Quoin and Pinckneyville's varsity volleyball squads met in Anders Gymnasium on Thursday night for an SIRR Mississippi matchup and the Lady Indians rallied back after dropping the first set 25-13 to take the second 26-24, and the third 25-22.

The well-contested game drew the largest crowd of the season for DHS as the school hosted 'Brain Cancer Awareness Night' to benefit Du Quoin native Anna Maddox. Proceeds raised for the cause totaled over $1500.

"We want to thank the community for coming out and supporting our Brain Cancer Awareness night," said Lady Indians head coach Jesica Green. "The girls played great, I'm so proud of them."

Rebekah Maddox - Anna's daughter - led Du Quoin with 12 kills against Pinckneyville. Kate Toler added 10, Cassidy Rice 6 and Hope Fenton 5. Alexis Kohrs led the Lady Indians in digs with 10 and Lela Spiller had 8.

For the Lady Panthers, Danielle Bruns finished with a team-high 8 kills, Katelyn Mayer had 6, Haley Simpson 5. Morgan Wild led digs with 7, Mayer had 4. Bailey Nippe (7) and Kristen Ginn (5) combined on Pinckneyville's dozen assists.

The Lady Indians are at Nashville on Tuesday for their next match, PCHS travels to Red Bud on Monday before hosting Sparta on Tuesday.
