Ross Mayor

Ross Mayor, 72, of Champaign, passed away on Monday Oct. 15, 2012 at 7:50 p.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital. He was born on Oct. 24, 1939 in Du Quoin to Eugene and Elaine Provart Mayor. He married Resa Denisar in Champaign on Feb. 12, 1983 and she survives.

Also surviving are one son- Kelly Mayor of Champaign and one daughter- Kimberly (Jeff) Cline and three grandchildren- Ross Perry, Kale Cline and Gunner Cline. Also surviving is one sister- Sally Jo Mayor of Champaign. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ross was a successful writer during his career, working in fundraising and direct mail marketing and advertising.

Early in his professional life he worked for the University of Illinois as the Director of Annual Giving. He later became Creative Director for two local advertising agencies and then directly employed by two companies in private industry.

Ross's professional achievements were nationally recognized, with over 50 awards from the Direct Mail Marketing Association.

Ross enjoyed many activities including fishing, hunting and traveling, especially to tropical locales. But mostly, he enjoyed activities with family and doting on his two children and three grandsons, of whom he was very proud.

He was an Army veteran serving in the 37th Signal Detachment as a Specialist 4 from 1962 until 1964.

Visitation for Ross will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012 from 9 to11 a.m. at the Morgan Memorial Home 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy. Funeral Services will also be on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Morgan Memorial Home with the Rev. Tim Barber officiating. Internment will take place at the Prairie View Cemetery, Savoy.

Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army or the Eastern Illinois Food Bank.
