Lowell George Meyer

Lowell George "Tiny" Meyer, 83, passed away at 6:46 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at the Rosewood Care Center in Rockford after an extended illness. Lowell had been a resident of Rockford since 1947.

He was born in Pinckneyville, Ill., on Sept. 20, 1929, the son of George Kenneth Meyer and Gertrude Marie (Linze) Meyer.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bernadine (Homer) Ray and Shirley (David) Shaw and brother, Kenneth Dale Meyer.

He is survived by his sisters, Evelyn (John) Ferguson of Granite City, Ill., Marilyn (Merrill) Queen of New Athens, Ill. and Donna Boswell of Dothan, Ala.; brothers, Dr. Mervin "Gene" (Glenda) Meyer of Chico, Calif. and Larry Ross (Theresa) Meyer of Las Vegas, Nev. He is also survived by his companion of many years, Agnes Coririossi of Rockford; her daughter, Mary Ellen and children, Nicholas and Tara and many nephews and nieces.

Lowell was a Korean War Veteran and was a survivor of the battle of Old Baldy. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion Carlson Post 1206. Most of his working days were spent as a cement mason in Rockford where he was a proud past President of the Local Chapter 382 of the Operative Plasterers' and Cement Masons' International. Lowell was also on the Board of the Victory Home Homeowners' Association.

Eastern Montana was Lowell's favorite vacation spot where he was close to the Phipps, Ryan, Chamberlin, Loomis and other ranching families, who considered him part of their own family. He traveled to Montana every year for at least 40 years where he loved to fish and hunt.

Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 in Olson Funeral and Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford, Illinois with burial immediately following in Arlington Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. in the funeral home.
