Lowell A. Simmons
Lowell A. "Sonny" Simmons, 84, Decatur, Alabama, passed away Oct. 26, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Simmons was born Sept. 7, 1928 in Noble, Ill. to Lowell G. and Ethel Simmons. He and his wife were members of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Mr. Simmons was a salesman for Du Quoin Packing Co. in Du Quoin, Ill. until he transferred to Decatur Packing Co. (Blue Bell Meats) as sales manager. He was then promoted to manager. After retiring he worked for Holaway Grocery in the meat department for two years.
Survivors include his son, Stephen L. Simmons; daughters, Carol Taylor (Richard) and Cindy Chandler (Gene); sister, Mary Ann Givens of Vandalia, Ill.; grandchildren, Tina Austin, Sonny Taylor, Charles Simmons, Stephanie Simmons, Phillip Chandler, Gene Chandler, Cecelia McCleskey, all of Morgan County, Ala.; great-grandchildren, Jessica Austin, Daniel Austin, Megan Chandler, Kaylee Chandler, Sarah Chandler, Jessica Parker, Garth Greene, Jonathan McCleskey, all of Morgan County, Ala.; great-great-grandchild, Jaden Greene of Morgan County, Ala. and special friends Bill and Betty Martin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Phillis Gayle Simmons, sisters Norma Black, Wanda Jean Simmons, Olive Elizabeth (Betty) Simmons.
Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Hal Dean Eddy officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Sonny Taylor, Daniel Austin, Charles Simmons, Gene Chandler, Phillip Chandler, Garion McCleskey. Honorary pallbearer is Bill Martin.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of North Alabama.
