Loyalists Will Have Tougher Time Finding Bost on Perry County Ballot

Rep. Mike Bost loyalists will have a harder time finding the Republican Murphysboro state representative, first elected in 1995, on the ballot in Perry County this year. Bost is unopposed.

This is the first general election held since the decennial redistricting process following the 2010 federal census. There have been changes in the state representative district boundary lines in Perry County. While parts of the county continue to be in both the 115th and 116th Representative Districts, the boundary lines are much different than in the past 10 years.

Much of the county is now in the 116th District represented by Rep. Jerry Costello II, who is opposed by Julie Bigham Eggers.

The new 115th District generally includes the eastern and northern parts of Du Quoin plus Sunfield, Tamaroa, Swanwick, Beaucoup and rural areas north of Pinckneyville. The new 116th District generally includes the central and southwest parts of Du Quoin plus Pinckneyville, Cutler, Willisville and rural areas south and west of Pinckneyville. Precinct boundary lines have changed in a few Du Quoin precincts, mostly in the Du Quoin 1, 7 and 11 precincts.

Perry County remains part of the 58th Illinois Senate District. Republican David Luechtefeld is opposed in that race by Anna democrat Michael Bigler. Luechtefeld, representing the 58th district since 1995, is serving as the Assistant Minority Leader in the Illinois Senate.

Bigler is the son of Judge D.D. and Midge Bigler, married to Dori Lloyd, also from Anna. His father was elected and served as a Judge in the Illinois First Circuit for 24 years. The 58th District is comprised of Union, Jackson, Perry, Jefferson, Washington, St. Clair, Monroe and Randolph counties.
