Michael W. Bailey

Michael W. "Mike" (Melonhead) Bailey, age 58, of Pinckneyville, Ill., passed away on Tuesday morning, November 6, 2012 in Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.

Mike was born on March 30, 1954 in Du Quoin, Ill., a son to Donald Thomas and Mauna Loa (Runion) Bailey. Mike was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill., was a corrections officer for the State of Illinois for 10 years and also worked as a coal miner. He was a 1972 graduate of Pinckneyville Community High School and a member of the U.M. W. A., Pinckneyville Eagle's and Pinckneyville Moose. He enjoyed fishing, rabbit hunting, St. Louis Cardinal Baseball, crossword puzzles and dearly loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include one daughter, Michelle (Jeffery) Miller of Freeburg, Ill.; three grandchildren, Alyssa, Brendan and Connor Miller; a brother, Steve (Diane) Bailey of Tamaroa, Ill.; two sisters, Chris (Jeff) Bergfeld of Shelbyville, Ky. and Mary Ruth (Jerry) Tritschler of Du Quoin, Ill.; special friend, Tina Laxton of Pinckneyville, Ill.; several dear nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Dean and Mildred Bailey and Kenneth and Loa Runion; wife, JoAnn Stehl Bailey; one uncle, James R. Runion and a great-niece, Sidnee Stephens.

Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Brother Tim McIntyre officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Du Quoin, Ill.

Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
