Charles Robert Hargett

Charles Robert "Chuck" Hargett, 89, of Elkville, formerly of Du Quoin, passed away at 1:05 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 at the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Chuck had been owner and operator of ACE Janitorial. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin and the Angler Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Du Quoin American Legion and Du Quoin Elks. He served as a TEC 4 in the 1st Parachute Surgical Team in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in New Guinea, Luzon, Southern Philippines and Ryukyus. He received Combat Medical Badge and Parachute Wings. He was awarded four Bronze Stars for the mentioned campaigns, a Bronze Star Medal and was awarded a Purple Heart.

He was born April 20, 1923 at Hardscrabble, Ill., the son of Charles Oscar and Sarah J. (Brock) Hargett.

He was the loving husband to two wives - Patsy and Mary Lou, both preceded him in death.

He is survived by one daughter - Jetta Overos and husband Ed of Elkville, one brother-in-law - Bob Plummer and wife Janice of California, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, one brother and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin American Legion and V.F.W. and Army National Guard.

Friends may make memorials to the First Baptist Church Building Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
