Roberta I. Phillips

Roberta I. Phillips, age 88, of Pinckneyville, Ill., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 at 5:25 p.m. in Fairview Nursing Center, Du Quoin, Ill.

Roberta was born on July 2, 1924 in Woodlawn, Ill., a daughter to Chalen and Anna (Eldridge) Hays. On March 11, 1944, she married Charles "Elmer" Phillips in Pinckneyville, Ill. and he preceded her in death on April 9, 1994. Roberta was a member of Concord Baptist Church, Rice, Ill., and worked at the Pinckneyville Garment Factory for over 30 years. She was a member of the I.L.G.W.U. and enjoyed sewing. Roberta dearly loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons, Carl Gene (Sharon) Phillips of Du Quoin, Ill. and Harold Dean (Jane) Phillips of Pinckneyville, Ill.; one daughter, Carolyn Sue (Jack) Hutchings of Pinckneyville, Ill.; six grandchildren, Michael (Janice) Phillips, Matthew Phillips, Justin Phillips, Douglas Hutchings, Sherry (Mark) Flowers and Susan (Clint) Ronchetto; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley Mines, Jared Phillips, Nathan Anheuser, Kaleb Stanhouse, Devin Stanhouse, Tyler Flowers, Madelyn Flowers and Naelin Ronchetto; one great-great grandchild, Hailey Anheuser; three sisters, Wondola Hall and Zelda (Virgil) Presswood of Monmouth, Ill., Laura Weatherford of Pinckneyville, Ill. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Harold Hays, Raymond Hays and Kenneth Hays; two sisters, Loretta Morgenthaler and Virginia Presswood and one sister in infancy, Elsa Hays.

Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend William (Tom) Spiller officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, Ill.

Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
