District 300 Board Meets; Contract Discussions Begin

The Du Quoin Education met in brief executive session Monday as talks with Du Quoin District 300 superintendent Gary Kelly on a new contract continue.

No agreement has been reached on a new contract. The superintendent is nearing the end of a five-year contract.

The discussions are ongoing as are preliminary talks for a new teachers' contract.

In other action, the board employed Larry Caldwell and Donna Davison as freshman class co-sponsors for the 2012-2013 school year.

The board also approved the winter extra-curricular volunteer list from the athletic department.

The board went into executive session at 7:05 p.m. after a routine meeting and emerged at 7:50 p.m. with no other action taken.

Monday's agenda included a high school construction update, discussion regarding district financial planning as part of the 2012 property levy process, consideration of board policy updates and the district's strategic plan.

Demolition of the old high school building is on track.
