Dr.Charles R.Young

Dr. Charles R. Young, 83, of Northbrook passed away at 7:15 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Midwest Palliative & Hospice Care Center, Glenview.

He was born to the late Charles J. and Faye (nee Johnson) Young on May 27, 1929 in Chester. He married Marion Veath on June 29, 1952, at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester; she survives. He was superintendent of schools in Glencoe from 1968 -1988. Prior to that he was superintendent of schools and principal in East Lansing, Mich., and Ladue,Mo., respectively.

Dr. Young was a captain in the United States Air Force. He earned a full scholarship playing football for the University of Arkansas.

Dr. Young was a founding partner of Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates, a premier national superintendent search firm.

His many professional accomplishments were only surpassed by his devotion to his wife, Marion, of 60 years and to his family. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing courses around the world. Having successfully battled Amyloidosis, he once wrote, "In the years that have been given to me, no joy surpasses that of being a part of the lives of seven dynamic teenagers who call me grandpa."

He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Ascension in Northfield since 1968. He is survived by his wife, Marion Young of Northbrook; two children, Chris (Nancy) Young of Northbrook and Mary (Dave) Otis of Northbrook; seven grandchildren, Caitlin Young, Erin Young, Justin Holleb, Connor Holleb, Chris Otis, Carly Otis and Juliana Otis; a sister-in-law, Dorthea (Allan) Witbar of Chester; and two nephews, Bruce and Craig Witbart.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services were held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home, Chester. Visitation was held Saturday from10 to 10:30 a.m. at Pechacek-Mc- Clure Funeral Home, Chester. Interment was held at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Chester.
