BASKETBALL: Lady Indians surge past Sparta in second half
DU QUOIN, IL - DuQuoin outscored Sparta 38-5 after the half and surged to their fifth win of the 2012-13 girls basketball season, routing the Bulldogs 62-23 with three Indians finishing in double figures.
Rebekah Maddox was honored at the home game on Tuesday evening for scoring the 1,000th point in her career at DuQuoin High School on November 13 during the DHS Girls Tip-Off against Elverado. Head coach Shawn File presented Maddox with the game ball from that night.
DuQuoin led throughout the game on Tuesday and was up 24-18 at the half. The Indians had a really good third quarter outscoring Sparta 25-4, and finished strong at 49-22.
Kelsey Robinson was the leading scorer for the Indians with 13 points. Maddox followed with 12 points, Andrea Morgan 11, Katrina Whitley 9, Abby Myers 8, Taylor King 5, Jordyn Bullar 2, and Sydney Lewis 2.
Coach File thought, "we played really well for three quarters. The second quarter was disappointing. We did play a good second half. We had three kids in double digits."
The Jr. Varsity, coached by Jason James, also won making their record 1-2. The game score was 31-21. Andrea Morgan had 17 points for the Indians. Jordyn Bullar had 6, Sydney Lewis 4, Alaina Caldwell 2, and Ashanti Warren 2.
DuQuoin (5-3) travels to Murphysboro on Thursday (7:30), and will play Nashville at home on Saturday (1:00).
