Elizabeth E. Dunn
Elizabeth E. "Betty " Dunn, age 88, of Pinckneyville, Ill., passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012 at 3:10 a.m. in Friendship Manor, Nashville, Ill.
Betty was born on Aug. 17, 1924 in Cobden, Ill., a daughter to Rev. David H. and Grace (Small) Smith. She was married to James E. Dunn on Oct. 19, 1945 in the Sesser Baptist Church by her father, Rev. David H. Smith. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill., where she served as a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir for numerous years. She was a long-time member and past president of the Women's Missionary Union. She was also a member and past president of the Pinckneyville Women's Club. Betty attended SIU for two years prior to volunteering as a typist at Wright Field Air Force Base during WW II. She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed knitting, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include one son, Steve and Fran Dunn of Bellflower, Mo.; one daughter, Nancy and Fred Starkweather of Broken Arrow, Okla.; one brother, David H. Smith Jr. of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; one sister-in-law, Sherry Dunn of Du Quoin, Ill.; five grandchildren, Jeff and Laurel Starkweather and their children, Megan, Melissa, Madison and Max of Broken Arrow, Okla., James Starkweather and children, Austin, Alyx, Blake, Maci and Bayli of Herrin, Ill., Jeremy and Amy Starkweather and their son, Gavin of Overland Park, Kans., Kevin and Martie Dunn and their children, Stephanie and Erica of Jefferson City, Mo. and Keith and Milissa Dunn and their children, Joseph and Katherine of Grenada, Miss. and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Paul Henry Smith and one brother in infancy; three sisters, Margie Jones, Monta Marie McDonnough and Alta Ruth Smith.
Funeral Services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Charles Boling officiating. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. City Cemetery, Pinckneyville, Ill.
Friends may call at First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
