Du Quoin police and drug task force find hallucinogenic mushroom 'grow room' during marijuana search at home

On Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 4:31 p.m. the Du Quoin Police Department and the Perry County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at the residence of Brian J. Creek, 23, located at 106 South Leonard Street in Du Quoin. The task force received information that Creek had been selling large amounts of cannabis for a lengthy period of time in Du Quoin.

Assistant Chief of Police Jamie Ellermeyer stated police arrived at the residence and served Creek with the search warrant shortly after Creek was arrested for unlawful delivery and possession of cannabis over 500 grams but under 2000 grams.

Ellermeyer related that the type of cannabis found is believed to be a higher grade of cannabis than what is normally found in our area.

The search also resulted in an elaborate grow system being discovered at the residence. Police allege Creek had been growing psilocybin mushrooms in a climate-controlled environment. The mushrooms and system were disassembled and taken into evidence. Police allege that Creek had been operating the grow system in the bedroom of the residence. Police also removed three guns and more than $2,500 cash from the residence.

Creek was charged with the above Class 2 felony concerning the cannabis and transported to the Perry County Jail. Police expect further charges will be filed on Creek concerning the mushrooms once they are tested at the Illinois State Police Crime Lab.
