Kenneth Lyle Hawk

Kenneth Lyle 'Kenny' Hawk, 95, of Du Quoin, passed away at 6:10 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 at the Fairview Nursing Center in Du Quoin.

Kenny was an amazing man. He had a love of God and his family like no other man we know. In his early life, he lived in Chicago during the war and worked at a steel mill. When he moved back to Du Quoin, he worked for Blue Bell Packing Company until his retirement. He liked working on cars and taking his sons rabbit hunting. Kenny and his wife, Ileen, sponsored the Christian Youth Fellowship in Du Quoin during the 1950's and 1960's. He changed a lot of young people's lives. He was very well known and loved by all. Kenny and Ileen loved fishing together. He loved catfishing and knew where to catch the biggest catfish in Crab Orchard. They also traveled to Florida and other places in their travel trailer. He never met a stranger. He was a member of the Spirit of Life Christian Church in Du Quoin.

He was born April 1, 1917 at Du Quoin, Ill., the son of Silas Simpson and Lena Belle (Ubanks) Hawk.

He married Ileen Christina Commean, the love of his life, on April 16, 1938 at Perryville, Mo. and she preceded him in death on Feb. 8, 2010.

He is survived by two children - Diana (Gene) Rolando and Lybrand (DiAnna) Hawk, all of Du Quoin, one daughter-in-law - Phillis Hawk of Anna, nine grandchildren - Karen Berry, Silas Hawk, Jimmy Hawk, Kenny Hawk, Paula Beanland, Yvonne Ellet, Bill Hawk, Kim James, and Travis Rolando, twenty great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, one sister - Lois Bowlin of Du Quoin and several nieces and nephews. Kenny also had a second family at Fairview Nursing Center, where he was cared for with love and affection from all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son - Allen Hawk, two brothers - Lybrand Hawk and Ernest Hawk.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin with Bro. Paul Moore officiating.

Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Fairview Nursing Center and will be accepted at the funeral home.
