Donald C. Hardin

Donald C. Hardin, age 81, of Pinckneyville, Ill., passed away on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 at 6:40 a.m. in Frankfort Care Center, West Frankfort, Ill.

Don was born on Feb. 15, 1931 in Pinckneyville, Ill., a son to Claude and Rosalie (Royster) Hardin. He was a veteran of the United States Army for three years where he proudly served in the Korean War earning a Bronze Star Medal and obtaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. On March 11, 1989, he married Diane Rushing Reese in Mayfield, Ky. and she survives. He had worked as a supervisor with General Telephone Company in Florida and retired in 1987 after 35 years of service. Don was a boy scout leader in Florida, a Mason, a former member of the American Legion and loved woodworking, fishing and traveling with his wife in their motorhome.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Hardin of Pinckneyville, Ill.; a son, Dennis A. (Cindy) Hardin of Greenwood, Ind.; a daughter, Trudy Westphal (Gerry Broadwell) of Kernersville, N.C.; a stepson, Brent (Mary Beth) Reese of West Frankfort, Ill.; his stepmother, Lauraine Hardin of Coulterville, Ill.; a sister, Mary McKinstry of Barnhart, Mo.; six grandsons who will serve as his pallbearers; two granddaughters; four great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Rob Mathis and Pastor Dennis Hardin officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, Ill. with graveside military rites by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504, Pinckneyville, Ill.

Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
