Howard Searby
Howard Searby, 86, of Tamaroa, passed away at 11:50 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital at Pinckneyville.
Howard was a former Sheriff of Edwards County. He was also a funeral assistant with his son, David, in the operation of Searby Funeral Homes in Du Quoin and Tamaroa. He was involved in the operation of Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin and the Searby Farm at Tamaroa. He was an outstanding high school basketball player at the Mt. Carmel High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Tamaroa Christian Church. He was also a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and was a former board member of Five Star Industries.
He was born Sept. 12, 1926 at Evansville, Ind., the son of Harry Edward and Winifred (Deane) Searby.
He married Emma A. Hering on Dec. 2, 1944 at Browns, Ill. and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Tamaroa, four sons - David H. Searby and wife Linda of Du Quoin, Tim Searby and wife Lorna of Lincoln, Mark Searby and wife Linda of Birmingham, Ala. and James Searby and wife Kelley of Tamaroa, one daughter - Beth Snyder and husband Keith of Lincoln, two brothers - Ray Searby and wife Jeanie of Kell, and Burke Searby and wife Ann of Mt. Carmel, one sister - Mary Jo Randle and husband Bill of Visalia, Calif., 10 grandchildren - David Searby Jr. of Du Quoin, Paul Searby and wife Jaime of Du Quoin, John Mark Searby and wife Jessie of Cornelius, N.C., Joel Searby and wife Jen of Gainesville, Fla., Josh Searby and wife Amanda of Pinckneyville, Matt Searby and wife Joy of Normal, Jason Searby of Chicago, Emmary Roemer and husband Aaron of Lincoln, Hannah Snyder of Lincoln and Hayley Snyder of Lincoln and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son - Dan Searby, and one brother - Larry Searby.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Dr. Mark Searby and Bro. Arven Kirkpatrick officiating.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and the United States Navy.
Friends may make memorials to the Five Star Industries Wishing Well Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
