BASKETBALL: Hornettes end Du Quoin's season

ZEIGLER, IL - The DuQuoin High School Girls Basketball Team had to play Nashville for the third time on Wednesday evening while participating in the Regional at Zeigler-Royalton. For the third time, Nashville came out on the winning side in the game.

Nashville, ranked #4 at the State level by the Associated Press, is definitely a force in Girls Basketball in southern Illinois. The score of the game was 53-25. The Indians finished the season with a 9-21 record.

DuQuoin was not able to handle the Hornettes. Nashville created an enormous amount of pressure, both full court and half court. DuQuoin trailed 35-16 at the half. Rebekah Maddox scored all 16 of the points for the Indians in the first half.

Maddox finished with 18 points, Taylor King contributed 5 points, and Katrina Whitley had 2 points. Seniors, who played in their final game, are Rebekah Maddox, Taylor King, and Kelsey Robinson. A fifth senior, Alexis Kohrs, was out with an injury.

Coach Shawn File commented: "The girls played very hard to the final buzzer. We have a very special group of seniors that were part of 55 victories over their four years at DHS."

The Hornettes improved to 27-2 and will meet up with Sesser-Valier in Thursday night's Class 2A Z-R Regional Championship at 7:30 p.m. in Zeigler.
