Pinckneyville discusses business district policy

The Pinckneyville City Council Monday again tabled action on a request from Arthur Insurance Agency for $8,250 to repair the awning on the front of the building at 4 East Water St. Art Ashbrook of Arthur Insurance is leasing the space.

The council discussed funding only 50 percent of any given project and setting a cap on each project, as well as limiting projects to exterior maintenance. The council hopes to have a policy in place before the next meeting.

Ashbrook was asked to get a second bid on the project. The insurance agent said he contacted five local businesses about replacing the awning. Two viewed the building and only one submitted a bid.

The council plans to give a definitive answer at the March 11 meeting.

In other business, the council:

• approved holding the Fireman's Association annual Good Friday fish fry a the KC Hall on March 29. The bar will be closed during the fish fry and no alcohol will be served.

• passed a resolution declaring the light fixtures recently replaced as part of a DCEO grant to be surplus property. The light fixtures were replaced in the Utility and Fire Departments. Commissioner David Stone will advertise the property, set hours for public viewing then sell the fixtures on a first come, first served basis.

• passed an ordinance adopting and enacting the ordinances passed in the last year.

• tabled a resolution approving a park maintenance service agreement.
