Dorothy L. Darnell

Dorothy L. Darnell, 87, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:10 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Dorothy had been a homemaker and a cook at J.B. Ward School for 15 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin. She had been a part of Rosie the Riveter in Evansville, Ind., making airplane wings during World War II. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge.

She was born May 24, 1925 at Isley, Ky., the daughter of Richard and Goldie (Peyton) Watson.

She married Melvin Leroy Darnell on March 6, 1946 at Hopkinsville, Ky. and he preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 2005.

She is survived by three children - Chris Darnell and wife Kathy, Ron Darnell and Elaine Dawson and husband Jeff, all of Du Quoin, one sister - Joan Worsham of Crofton, Ky., two brothers - William Don Watson of Campbellsville, Ky. and Bobbie Joe Watson of Dawson Springs, Ky., seven grandchildren - Krysta Brown and husband Nick, Kacie Lang and husband Patrick, Patricia Rogers and husband Russell, Heather Meyer and husband Fred, Dusty Kelley, Matthew Darnell and wife Briana and John Darnell and wife Angela and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughters in infancy - Melinda Kay and Vickie Lorene, and one brother - Wayne McCraw.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to Marshall Browning Hospital Tree of Life and will be accepted at the funeral home.
