Marie Emma Archer

Marie Emma Archer, 94, of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:40 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2013 at her residence.

Marie had been a homemaker. She was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Du Quoin.

She was born Dec. 2, 1918 at Du Quoin, Ill., the daughter of James and Julia (Woll) Hess.

She married Francis 'Arkie' Archer on Sept. 9, 1938 at the Du Quoin Fairgrounds and he preceded her in death on May 15, 1990.

She is survived by six children - Francis Allan Archer and wife Janet of Decatur, Ill., Roy Eugene Archer and wife Shirley of Du Quoin, Ruth Ann Bigham and husband Tom of Du Quoin, Marie Lynn Hinton and husband Wayne of Gillispie, Ill., Gary Wayne Archer and wife Marjorie of Flower Mound, Tex. and June Elaine Gibbs and husband Benjie of Du Quoin, daughter-in-law - Loretta Tankersley of Argenta, Ill., one sister - Mary Ann Hess of Du Quoin, 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son - Raymond Douglas Archer, two brothers, two sisters, one grandchild, and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Dwayne Dollgener officiating.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to St. Johns United Church of Christ or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
