Don Kunkel seated on Du Quoin city council

The Du Quoin City Council met Monday night and seated Don Kunkel as the new street commissioner. Former street commissioner Kathy West moves to the finance chair. City administrator Brad Myers delivered the oath of office as West held the Bible. The council also approved a condemnation action on property at 226 N. Walnut Street, and heard a presentation from the new owners of New Wave Communications who indicated there will be ongoing improvements, but no staffing changes or layoffs in the Du Quoin office. The public was also advised that the second annual Art on Main project will be held April 27.

City ordinance prevents the placement of campaign and business signs on city-owned streets and boulevards. Any signs found there will be picked up and taken to city hall where candidates or businesses can recover them, according to city administrator Brad Myers.
