Tamaroa man killed in Rt. 154 crash

A Tamaroa man was killed and the driver of a second car was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 3 p.m. Thursday on Illinois 154 at Boxelder Road in Perry County. There were no other passengers in either vehicle. State Police at the District 13 command in Du Quoin said their preliminary investigation indicates Travis B. Taylor, 21, of Tamaroa was westbound on Illinois 154 when his right-side tires dropped off the pavement.

Police said it appears Taylor over-corrected, came back onto the highway and crossed into the path of an SUV driven by Amy Jo Russell, 48, of Carbondale. Taylor's car was broadsided as his car turned sideways. Russell suffered severe injuries and was flown from the scene to Saint Louis University Hospital.

The accident remains under investigation. First responders cleared the scene at 5:27 p.m.
