Billy Len Baker
Billy Len 'Jeep' Baker, 76, of Du Quoin, went to be with our Lord and Savior at 9:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Herrin Hospital in Herrin, Ill.
Billy had worked in Chicago, Ill. in quality control and supervision. Upon moving to Southern Illinois in 1974, he worked at Turco, Blue Bell and was the Manager of Coastal Gas Station for 10 years, prior to retiring. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin and previously was a member of Kiwanis. He was a loving husband, father and papa. He loved the Lord, watching the Cardinals play baseball, Miner's baseball, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and family.
He was born Feb. 9, 1937 at Tyler, Mo., the son of Finis J. and Irene (Lents) Baker. He lived in Frog Jump, Tenn. for 18 years before moving to the Chicago area where he met the love of his life.
He married Dorothy M. 'Dotty' Jones on Nov. 29, 1959 at Berwyn, Ill. and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, two children - Donald E. Baker of Marion, Ill. and Donna L. Troesser and husband Steven of Mexico, Mo., one brother - Finis 'Windel' Baker of Frog Jump, Tenn., five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother - Jesse D. Baker.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 12, 2013 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Elkville Cemetery at Elkville, Ill.
Friends may make memorials to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or the donor's choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
