Marion Carter

Marion Carter, 89, of Springville, Ala., formerly of Du Quoin, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the VA Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.

Marion had served in the United States Army as a Scout on the front lines in France and Germany during World War II. He returned home as a farmer on the family farm.

He was born on Nov. 1, 1923 at Mulkeytown, Ill., the son of William and Frances (Davis) Carter.

He married Bertha Tilley in 1991 and she preceded him in death in 2009.

He is survived by five sisters - Margie Goring of Dewyville, Utah, Katherine Vitale of Paris, Tenn., Frances Hunsaker of Troy, Mont., Florence Reed of Great Falls, Mont., and Barb Reed of Las Cruces, N.M.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers - Charles Carter and Bill Carter.

Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Old Du Quoin Cemetery in Du Quoin with Rev. Dennis Fitzsimmons officiating.

Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Friends may make memorials to the Gospel Assembly Church in Du Quoin and will be accepted at the funeral home.
