Margaret Elaine Berger
Margaret Elaine Berger, 96, of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:15 a.m., Friday, May 10, 2013 at her residence.
Margaret had been a homemaker and had worked at the Du Quoin Packing House and as a housekeeper for the St. Nicholas Hotel for 20 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Du Quoin and had been past Deacon of the church. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge Carbondale 220 for over 60 years. She had been past Noble Grand and past District President of District 28 of the Rebekahs. Margaret was a member of the Carbondale IOOF Lodge. She was a 62-year member of the Du Quoin V.F.W. Auxiliary and had been past Chief Matriarch of the Ladies Encampment Auxiliary Randolph 55.
She was born June 2, 1916 at Du Quoin, Ill., the daughter of Albert and Amanda (Bowlin) Miller.
She married Leslie L. Berger on Oct. 9, 1937 at Du Quoin, Ill. and he preceded her in death on June 27, 1993.
She is survived by one daughter - Martha Freeman and husband Tom Morgan of Du Quoin, numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister - Ruth Gaskins.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Tim Scroggins officiating.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin.
