Robert Gene Leehy
Robert Gene Leehy, 74, of Du Quoin passed away at 8:30 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2013 at his residence.
He had been a mechanic at the Consol Burning Star #2 mine. He was a member of the UMWofA for 30 years, member of the NRA and Modern Woodsman. He was of the Baptist faith.
Robert was born Sunday, March 5, 1939 at Du Quoin, Ill. the son of Paul James and Levada (Hadfield) Leehy.
He first married Ollie Stewart on Feb. 14, 1959. He then married Carletta Halstead on Oct. 9, 1970 at Pueblo, Colo. and she passed away Aug. 21, 1993.
He is survived by five children- Kevin G. Leehy and wife Robin of Du Quoin, Jason Self and wife Gayla of Carbondale, Judy A. Otteson and husband Robert of Apple Valley, Minn., Tracy J. Horner and husband Brian of Du Quoin, Velora H. Zettler of Bement, brother- Nolan D. Leehy and wife Alice of Versailles, Mo., special friend- June Black of Ava, 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and his special dog- Skippy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son- Paul Wayne Leehy, brother- Delbert Wayne Leehy.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Merle Macke officiating.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the American Cancer Society or Passages Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
