John William Davison

John William Davison, 77, of Du Quoin, passed away at 11:58 a.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

John had worked as a loader operator for Consol Burning Star #2 Coal Mine. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of the UMW of A, NRA and the Illinois Sheriff's Association.

He was born Nov. 3, 1935 at Du Quoin, Ill., the son of William I. and Katherine (Degler) Davison.

He married Regina L. 'Jeannie' Burdel on April 18, 1955 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, six children - Suzan Day and husband Mark of Du Quoin, Jane Bongo and husband Al of Clearwater, Fla., Jo Ann Baker and husband David of Du Quoin, John Davison Jr. of Temple, Ga., James Davison and special friend Jackie Gassel of Du Quoin and David Davison and wife Paula of Johnston City, two sisters - Diane Green and husband Craig of Crawfordsville, Ind. and Jean Pyle and husband Gary of Du Quoin, 11 grandchildren - Tyler King and wife Maegan of Du Quoin, Christopher King of Du Quoin, Travis Lowe and fiancee Amanda of Knoxville, Tenn., Brandon Lowe of Du Quoin, Justin Day and wife Jayci of Carbondale, Jordan Day of Du Quoin, Christina Grogan and husband Lester of Du Quoin, Cortney Legan and husband Jack of Equality, Matthew Davison of Coello, Daniel Davison of Johnston City and Jacob Davison of Johnston City, five great grandchildren - Dominic Grogan, Connor Grogan, Lucas Grogan, Landon Lowe and Joshua Lowe, three brothers-in-law - Eugene Burdel, Tom Burdel and wife Pat and Bernie Burdel and wife Tami, all of Du Quoin, sister-in-law - Martha Burnett and husband Jack of Troy, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and son-in-law - Jeanette and Steve King, two brothers - Richard Davison and Billie Davison, his father-in-law and mother-in-law - Louis and Regina Burdel, one brother-in-law - Richard Burdel, and one sister-in-law - Cynthia Burdel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin with Fr. Nick Junker officiating.

Friends may call from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and the U.S. Air Force.

Friends may make memorials to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
