Officer holds babysitting school

Officer Carl Martin of the Pinckneyville City Police Department recently conducted an American Safety and Health Institute Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) course. This is the second babysitting course that he has taught at Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

Through the class the participants were certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (C.P.R.), the automatic external defibrillator (A.E.D.), and Basic First Aid. Wallet cards were given for completing the CABS class.

The class was a great introduction to the basics of babysitting. The program focused on supervising, caring for, and keeping children and infants safe in babysitting settings. It stressed the priority of keep the babysitter and the children they care for safe. Babysitting is not just "watching" children it is about being responsible for their safety and well being. Other topics discussed in the course included the business of babysitting, child development, car seat safety, fun, and games.

The free class which was held on Saturday, June 8 was attended by 28 participants. They each received a workbook, lunch, snacks and giveaways. The class was sponsored by the hospital as part of its community education series.
