Marie A. Cross

Marie A. Cross, 71, of Du Quoin, passed away at 3:25 a.m., Friday, June 21, 2013 at the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Marie was a homemaker. She was a member of the Smith Memorial AME Zion Church in Du Quoin and was a member of the Booster Club of the church. Marie had been a foster mother for over 13 years.

She was born Oct. 27, 1941 at Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Clarence and Mae Ellen (Holmquist) Johnson.

She married Charles P. Cross on March 28, 1964 at Geneva, Ill. and he survives.

She is survived by her husband of Du Quoin, four children - Charles A. (Lynn) Cross of Du Quoin, David Cross of Du Quoin, Jeannette Cross of Du Quoin and Kelvin (Tanika) Cross of Elgin, four step children - Elonda Hicks, Beverly Norton, Kathy Baxter and Michael Ward, two brothers - James (Sally) Johnson of Belvidere and Johnny (Marilyn) Johnson of Carpentersville, two sisters - Judy Morton of South Elgin and Ellen Baucum of South Elgin and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother - David Johnson, two sisters - Clarice Simmons and Wendy Aguiniga and one brother-in-law - Don Morton.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Theresa Flagg officiating.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Smith Memorial AME Zion Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
