Robert J. Schafer

Robert J. 'Bob' Schafer, 55, of Pinckneyville, passed away at 8:05 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Bob had been a carpenter at Contempri Homes in Pinckneyville. He had also worked in the coal mine at Peabody Coal Company and for the Illinois State Prison System at Chester and Joliet. He was a member of the St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville. Bob was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus member in Pinckneyville and a member of the Moose Lodge in Pinckneyville and Eagles Lodge in Pinckneyville. He was a good baseball player and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.

He was born Dec. 3, 1957 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, Ill., the son of Homer Joseph and Helen M. (Hagene) Schafer.

He is survived by his mother - Helen M. Schafer of Pinckneyville, one daughter - Catherine Denise McDaniel of Lee Summit, Mo., three sisters - Lois Heisner of Pinckneyville, Jean Millikin and husband Steve of Okawville and Joyce Bergfeld of Pinckneyville, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews including a very special great niece - Naomi Lewis, aunts, uncles and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father.

A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville with Fr. Ken Schaefer and Fr. Augustine Ibezimako officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the St. Bruno Catholic Church in Pinckneyville.

Rosary will be prayed at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Knights of Columbus service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Interment will immediately follow the service in the St. Bruno Cemetery at Pinckneyville.

Friends may make memorials to the Robert J. Schafer Memorial Fund and will be accepted at the church.
