Claude Sumner Green
Claude Sumner Green, age 94, of Centralia, Formerly of Richview passed away at 7:17 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia, Illinois.
He was born on April 19, 1919 in Ashley, Illinois, the son of Ralph and Myrtle (Mc Coy) Green. Claude married Evelyn (Newman) Green on Jan. 22, 1941 in St. Louis, Missouri and she preceded him in death on April 21, 2003.
Mr. Green is survived by two daughters- Carolyn Sue Burdick- Sun City West, Ariz., Patricia Bathon and husband Richard- Centralia, Ill.; son in law- Donald "Bud" Kelly; five grandchildren- Shannon Yeats & Husband Steve- Phoenix, Ariz., Angela Houser-Arizona, Jennifer Krutsinger and husband Jim-Xenia, Ill., Michelle Newcomb and partner Shannon Barker- Mc Cleansboro, Ill., Leigh Ann Hayes and husband Joe-Centralia, Ill.; eight great grandchildren and one- great great grandchild; special friend- Barbara Dietrich-Marion, Ill.; best friend- Roy Mc Kinzie-Centralia, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter- Ellen Kelly, grandson- Ralph Eugene Fletcher Jr., brother- Verlin Green, sisters-Alma Shopinski and Dorothy Quick, sons in law- Doug Burdick and Jerry Newcomb
He worked for over 38 years at the Illinois Central Railroad and retired in 1979. He lived most of his life in the Richview area. He was member of Richview Baptist Church where he served in many various roles. He was member of Richview Township Board and Richview Cemetery Board. He attended Brick Grade School and Ashley High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific from 1945-1946 in WW II.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Irvin Funeral Home in Centralia with Rev Jim Beaty officiating. Interment will follow in the Richview Cemetery in Richview, Illinois.
Friends may call on Sunday afternoon from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home
For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Richview Cemetery or Richview Baptist Church and will be accepted at the Irvin Funeral Home in Centralia, which is in charge of arrangements.
