George E. Bechtlofft

George E. Bechtlofft, 88, of Du Quoin, passed away at 3:40 a.m., Friday, Aug. 30, 2013 at the Fair Acres Rehab and Care Center in Du Quoin.

George had worked for 38 years at the Du Quoin Packing Company. He had also worked as Office Manager at the SIU Computer Department for 10 years. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. He was a life member of the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion. He had served as Treasurer for 20 years for the V.F.W. George was a member of the Crab Orchard Kennel Club and had also served as Past President. He enjoyed showing Toy Poodles. He had been Treasurer of Blue Bell Credit Union. George also enjoyed dancing with his wife, Evelyn. George had served as a Technical Sergeant in the 1074th Army Air Force Unit. He served in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe during World War II.

He was born Oct. 27, 1924 at Du Quoin, Ill., the son of Peter and Ada (Caselton) Bechtlofft Jr.

He married Evelyn J. Dippel on June 19, 1954 at Du Quoin, Ill. and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister - Dorothy Lou.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin with Fr. Joseph Oganda officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Wednesday.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and the National Guard.

Friends may make memorials to Masses or the Perry County Humane Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.
