Helicopter lands on Rt. 51 after car hits motorcycle

Du Quoin police are investigating an 11:25 a.m. accident Monday morning near the Family Restaurant on Rt. 51 near the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds. Police say a motorcycle driven by Jerry Long, 60, of Carterville was struck in the side by a 2013 Hyundai driven by Daniel Cash, 44, who was exiting Tracy Lane onto Rt. 51 near the restaurant.

Long received a serious leg injury. A medical evacuation helicopter was landed on the highway and Long was transported to S. Louis University Medical Center. Citations are pending.
