Mayor Duncan asks local candidates to take down signs until after the Christmas holiday

"I don't think that I can order them down," said Mayor Rex Duncan at last week's Du Quoin City Council meeting, but he appealed to candidates in the November 2014 general election to take them down until after the Christmas holidays.

The appeal comes after candidates--particularly for Perry County Sheriff--hit the ground running after their announcements.

Campaign signs are part of the process by which we promote candidates, but every now and then neighborhoods and motorists need a break.

Most signs have already come down since the appeal was made.

If signs show up on city-owned boulevards, "we own them" said one commissioner, and they will be taken down by city employees.
