Golda Mae Matthews

Golda Mae Matthews, 91, of Du Quoin, passed away at 4:10 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 at the Lakewood Nursing Home in Plainfield, Ill.

Golda was a homemaker.

She was born Feb. 14, 1922 in Williamson County, Ill. the daughter of Dallas H. and Ida (Hendrickson) Chamness.

She married Charles C. Matthews and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by a daughter- Anna Mae (Harry) Lydick of Michigan, two sons- Charles (Karen) Matthews of Plainfield and Melvin (Carol) Matthews of Dubois, Ind., nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers- Don C. Chamness, Leslie Chamness and Clifton Chamness and four sisters- Lura Walker, Nellie Brown, Fay McCree and Leota Phemister.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Melvin Matthews officiating.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the McElvain Cemetery at Du Quoin.

In lieu of flowers memorials maybe made to the Three Angels Broadcasting and will be accepted at the funeral home.
