Fall back and change the batteries in your smoke detectors

The Du Quoin Fire Department would like to take this time to remind everyone to change your smoke detector batteries when you change your clock. This is also a good time to do some small house cleaning on your detectors to keep them working more efficiently. This can be done by simply dusting off the detector and by using your extension on your vacuum cleaner to remove any dust or lint that may be present.

This is also a good time to look at the age of your detector. If your detector is ten years old or older the manufacturer recommends that the detector be replaced. Once you place a new detector in service take a permanent marker and put the date on the inside of the battery cover so that you can keep track of how old the detector is.

If there are any questions regarding your smoke detector call the Du Quoin Fire Department at (618) 542-5600.
