Tamaroa Village Board addresses water leaks

The Tamaroa Village Board agreed to give Robin Hood additional time to pay a $4,174 water bill at his restaurant. Hood said he would make a $1,000 payment as soon as possible then pay an additional $150 per month until the past-due bill is paid. The board agreed to stop charging late fees on the past-due amount while payements are made.

Fred Kreger was also offered additional time to pay his water bill due to two leaks, but declined. Kreger said he had a leak at his meter, called in a plumber to fix it then found another leak in his basement. He checked with the village and the plumber, but was told that as long as the meter is not spinning, there is no leak. He found that mechanical meters do not register very small leaks. The village replaced the old mechanical meter with a new electronic one, which is more sensitive.

In other business, the board:

• agreed to purchase up to four Jersey barriers to place on the curve near Oak Street to protect village property for a price not to exceed $500. Trustee Lisa Haycraft said that four times since she moved there, a driver has missed the sign and run up onto village property, running the risk of damaging water equipment.

• heard from Mike Smith of Southern Engineering that the contract should finish installing lift stations on Friday. The paperwork for the $60,000 DCEO grant which will pay for the new lift stations and some other equipment was sent to him. He informed the board that DCEO requires the funds be placed in an interest-bearing account. He will check to see if they can use a regular account instead since the bulk of the work has already been done and the funds will not be in an account long enough to earn interest.

• asked Fire Department representative Mark Valentine to ask the Fire Board if they would be willing to bear the cost of materials and boring to install the requested fire hydrant at the Fire Station.
