Du Quoin collecting for New Minden and Brookport victims this Saturday

On Saturday, Nov. 23, from 11a.m. - 3 p.m, members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and friends will be at the former Kroger parking lot in Du Quoin to collect items for those affected by the tornados in Brookport and New Minden areas. "We are asking for non perishable food items, toiletries, paper products, cleaning supplies, and pet food," according to an eMail forwarded from Gina Cushman. "Please NO clothing. We will also collect after Sunday Mass at Sacred Heart from 10 a.m. until around 10:30-ish at the school/church parking lot."

The plan is to distribute items on Sunday. "When Liz and I did this a couple years ago for those affected by the Harrisburg area tornado, we learned quite a bit," she adds. IF you have a LARGE item that you want to donate, please let one of us know prior to Saturday so that we can arrange proper transportation. I have messaged my Confirmation class to help assist also.
