Perry County: No increase in 2014 tax levy

The Perry County Board passed an ordinance appropriating $3,136,000 in real estate taxes for 2013, payable in 2014. County Clerk Josh Gross said only the corporate and IMRF levies increased, all others remained the same. In all there was a one percent increase over the previous year's levy. Since a small increase in EAV is anticipated, residents' tax bills should remain about the same as the previous year.

The board also passed an ordinance appropriating $595,000 for the Unit Road District. Gross said the 2014 levy decreased slightly from the previous year.

In other business, the board:

• set the meeting dates for 2014 for 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month and 2 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month except in July when the meeting on the first Thursday will be at 2 p.m. and the meeting on the third Thursday will be at 6 p.m. due to the first Thursday falling on July 3.

• adopted the 2014 schedule of holidays for county employees. The list is the same as in years past. Since it is an even-numbered year, county employees will be off on election day.

• passed a resolution appointing Bruce E. Reppert to the Emergency Management Agency staff.

• passed a resolution appointing Commissioner Jim Epplin to the Greater Ebypt Regional Planning and Development Commission for a three-year term.
