Glenn R. Martin
Glenn R. Martin, 90, of Du Quoin, passed away at 11:06 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Glenn was a retired raw coal operator for Inland Steel Coal Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin and the Anglers Sunday School Class. Glenn was also a member of the UMW of A. He served his country as a PFC in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the Philippines on the Luzon Island.
He was born March 6, 1923 at Du Quoin, Ill., the son of I. Paul and Hazel (Coffel) Martin.
Glenn married Alice K. Doolin on Nov. 14, 1940 at St. Louis, Mo. and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, son- Paul A. Martin and wife Jule Ann of Mount Vernon, son-in-law- Gayland Chancey of Du Quoin, grandchildren- Melissa A. Bishop and husband Shane, Paul Martin Jr. and wife Kris, Christopher A. Martin and wife Amy, James M. Swartz, Ellan Swartz, Martin Chancey and wife Tricia and Jason Chancey and wife Kristen, 10 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter- Nicki Chancey.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.
Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW, Du Quoin American Legion and the Army National Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Breast Cancer and will be accepted at the funeral home.
