Clyde E. Martie
Clyde E. Martie, 96, of Hallidayboro, passed away from this earthly home to his Heavenly home at 6:25 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at the home of his son in Hallidayboro.
Clyde had been a repairman at Freeman United #6 Coal Mine. He was a member of the Hallidayboro United Methodist Church and was the oldest member. He was a member of the UMW of A for 43 years. Clyde was also a member of the DeSoto Masonic Lodge.
He was born Jan. 26, 1917 at Elkville, Ill., the son of Charles Henry and Ada I. (Riley) Martie.
He married Ruby Wynona Spangler on Oct. 15, 1938 at Jackson, Mo. and she preceded him in death on Dec. 21, 1995.
He is survived by one son - Charles C. Martie and wife Gayla of Hallidayboro, four grandchildren - Denise Crews and husband Bob of Hallidayboro, Patty Manis and husband Randy of Hallidayboro, Darren Martie and wife Jamie of Hallidayboro and Cheryl Johnson and husband Paul of Johnston City, Ill., eight great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter - Carol Smith, son-in-law - Eldon Smith, one granddaughter - Mary Lynn Smith, three brothers - Clifford Martie, Claude Martie and Clarence Martie and one sister - Marjorie Maxadon.
Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 at the Hallidayboro United Methodist Church in Hallidayboro with Rev. Steve Utley and Rev. Jason Ishmael officiating.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday.
Burial will be in the Hallidayboro Cemetery at Hallidayboro.
Friends may make memorials to the Hallidayboro United Methodist Church or the First Christian Church of West Frankfort and will be accepted at the funeral home.
