Hilda M. Higgerson
Hilda M. Higgerson, 97, of Du Quoin, passed away at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at her residence.
Hilda had worked as a copy editor for the Moline Dispatch, Robinson Daily News and Du Quoin Evening Call for 20 years. She had been Manager of the Fund Raising Department of the Heath Candy Company. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. Hilda graduated from Elkville High School in 1937. She was a member of Catholic Daughters and the church quilting group. Hilda was also a member of AARP and Perry County Gold Plate, where she was on the Board of Directors. She was recognized for her 34 years of service for Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.
She was born Nov. 12, 1916 at Du Quoin, Ill. ,the daughter of Phillip and Louisa (Pundsack) Bergmann.
She married Harley Higgerson on Dec. 29, 1937 at Perryville, Mo. and he preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1980.
She is survived by two daughters - Anita Worthington of Kenilworth, Ill. and Bonita Higgerson of Champaign, Ill., one son - Cliff Higgerson and wife Judy of Menlo Park, Calif., one sister - Theresa Kohlenberg of Columbus, Ind., seven grandchildren - Tim Dominic and wife Diane of El Segundo, Calif., Steve Dominic and wife Kim of Fullerton, Calif., Amy Cooper and husband John of Tibron, Calif., Carolyn Sjostrand and husband Lars of Del Mar, Calif., Brad Worthington and wife Kari of Santa Monica, Calif., Curt Worthington and wife Jenny of New York City, Todd Higgerson and wife Cathy of Minneapolis, Minn. and nine great grandchildren - Kayla, Talia, Kristin, Olivia, Ashley, Grant, Cara, Jay and Emily.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter - Juanita Dominic, son-in-law - Wayne, her long-time special friend - Henry Schmidt in August of 2009, two brothers and two sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin with Fr. Joseph Oganda officiating.
Friends may call from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin.
