Jerry Dale Maxton
Jerry Dale Maxton, 73, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:04 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Jerry had worked for 27 years in the Forestry Department for Illinois Power Company. He had also worked at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds his entire life. He was a Produce Manager for National Food Store in Cicero. He had worked for Weinberg Funeral Home and Maxton Funeral Home for years. Jerry had also worked at Maxton Shell Station and at Red Hawk Golf Course. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Du Quoin. Jerry was a U.S. Army veteran and had been stationed in Alaska. He was a member of the Du Quoin Elks, Du Quoin American Legion and IBEW.
He was born Nov. 27, 1940 at Du Quoin, Ill., the son of Clyde 'Scotty' and Arline (Davison) Maxton.
He married Janet R. Bunge on July 13, 1963 at Chicago, Ill. and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, one son - Jason Maxton of Peoria, one brother - Frank Maxton of Herrin and two sisters - Phyllis Hershey of Menisee, Calif. and Luana Maxton of Du Quoin. Jerry also leaves behind many loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son - James Bryan Maxton and two brothers - Charles Maxton and Richard Maxton.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Charles Smith officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.
