Art Taylor

Art Taylor, age 84, of Du Quoin, Ill., passed away on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 at 9:10 p.m. in Fair Acres Rehab and Care Center, Du Quoin, Ill.

Art was born on Jan. 25, 1930 in Du Quoin, Ill., a son to Ben and Pauline (Moore) Taylor. On July 5,1983, he married René Mathews in Blytheville, Ark. and she survives. Art was a self-employed auto mechanic and farmer. He loved working at the Du Quoin Farmers Market where he was known as the "onion" man. Art loved farming, watching car races, dearly loved spending time with his family and friends and hosting barbeques. He was known as the best carburetor mechanic in southern Illinois.

Survivors include his wife, René Taylor of Du Quoin, Ill.; one son, Paul Dean (Barb) Taylor of Tamaroa, Ill.; two daughters, Dawn (Chris) Martin of Carterville, Ill. and Karen (Bart) Nevill of Tamaroa, Ill.; one brother, Bruce Taylor of Du Quoin, Ill.; one sister, Phyllis Rowan of Du Quoin, Ill.; five grandchildren, Eric (Anna) Taylor, Chatanya Eaton, Kendra and Chloe Martin and Lilly Nevill; five great-grandchildren, Ruby, Reese, Sydney, Dalton and Zavier; one great-great-grandson, Cane and many dear nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Arthur Taylor Jr. and Donnie Taylor; one sister, Pam Happold; two grandsons, Cody Taylor and P.J. Taylor and a brother-in-law, Gary Rowan.

Art's wishes were to be cremated. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Du Quoin, Ill. on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
