Du Quoin school board will rethink end-of-year calendar after hard winter

The Du Quoin Board of Education meets Thursday in regular session at 6:30 p.m. to consider the hiring of a middle school science teacher and to rethink the end-of-school schedule following the hard winter.

The district used up all of its scheduled "snow days" and dipped into what then became "Act of God" days.

The agenda includes the following:

Recognition of students and staff as submitted by the building principals.

The board will hear comments from the Du Quoin Education Association and the public.

The board will recognize students and staff for their accomplishments.

The board will discuss school maintenance and energy efficiency grants.

Consider a change in the 2013-2014 school calendar in order to make request of the Illinois State Board of Education for the Act of God days.

There will be information regarding the 2014-2015 school calendar.

School improvement information will be shared.

The board will award a grass mowing contract.

Middle school promotion and high school graduation ceremony dates will be set.

The board will hold an executive session, followed by the possible employment of a science teacher, extra-curricular personnel and approval of spring sports volunteer coaches.
