Ronnie L. Brashear Sr.

Ronnie L. Brashear Sr., 66, Erwin, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 at his home.

A native of Anna, Ill., he was the son of Ilene Hammett Brashear of Erwin and the late Harold Brashear. Mr. Brashear was a member of First Baptist Church in Erwin. Ronnie married Lurene Weaver Brashear on Aug. 4, 1965 in Wickliffe, Ky.

He completed his Bachelors of Art in April 1977 at Mid-Continent Baptist Bible College in Mayfield, Ky. with a major concentration in the Bible. He was valedictorian and graduated Magna-Cum-Laude. Ronnie completed his graduate studies in 1982 at The Queen's College, Oxford University in Oxford, England and received a Masters of Divinity in December 1986 from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He was the Pastor of Birds Creek Baptist Church in Whitlock, Tenn. from 1976 to 1983, West Corbin Baptist Church in Corbin, Ky. from 1983 to 1998, Great Swamp Baptist Church in Ridgeland, S.C. from 1998 to 2004 and Oak Grove Baptist Church in Johnson City from 2004 until his retirement in October of 2012. Ronnie loved spending time with family, preaching and golf.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Lurene Weaver Brashear; children, Ronnie Brashear Jr. of Indianapolis, Ind. and Rachelle Barton and husband Brian of Johnson City; grandchildren, Rebecca Barton of Erwin, Emilee Adkins and husband Brett of Erwin, Myah Brashear of Indianapolis, Ind., Brandon Edens and Brooke Edens, both of Maryland; his mother, Ilene Hammett Brashear of Erwin; a brother, Earl Brashear of Illinois and a sister, Shirley Phifer and husband of Alabama.

The family requests the honor of your presence at a Celebration of Life service at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Johnson City. The family will greet friends, to share memories at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour. Pastor Lamar Lyons will be officiating and music is under the direction of Bart Richardson.
