Bernadell Armour
Bernadell 'Bernie' (Tillquist) Armour, 86, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:49 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at her home.
Bernie had been a kindergarten teacher for over 20 years in Evanston, Ill. She graduated from Dickinson State University, the Art Institute of Chicago and National Teachers College in Evanston, Ill., where she received her Masters degree. Bernie took continuing education classes at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. and at Southern Illinois University. She enjoyed traveling and always brought a sketch book instead of a camera. She played the violin and enjoyed reading, swimming, singing, walking, riding her bike and her family. She was a member of Domestic Science Club and had worked with the Marshall Browning Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Evanston, Ill.
She was born Feb. 27, 1928 at Dickinson, N.D., the daughter of George L. and Zita (Nelson) Tillquist.
She married Frederick C. Armour on Dec. 20, 1952 at Evanston, Ill. and he preceded her in death on May 24, 1986.
She is survived by one daughter - Denise (Armour) Robson and husband Darrell A. of Du Quoin, one son - Gary Allan Armour Ph.D. of Chatham, Ill., one sister - Georgine (Tillquist) Auner of Antitogo, Wis., two granddaughters - Laura (Robson) Cannon and husband William 'Matthew' of Du Quoin and Elizabeth 'Libby' Armour of Chatham, Ill., one great granddaughter - Juliette E. Cannon of Du Quoin, seven nieces and nephews and many great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter-in-law - Barbara (Purdy) Armour.
Per Bernie's wishes, cremation services were held.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorials to the World Wildlife Fund, 1250 24th St. NW, Washington, DC 20037-1193, Hospice of Southern Illinois, 305 S. Illinois St., Belleville, IL 62220-2159 or the donor's choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
