Risk of severe weather today and Thursday across Perry County; Worst threat Thursday afternoon

National Weather Service has Perry County in a slight risk for severe weather for Wednesday and Thursday with the greatest potential at this time being Thursday afternoon and Thursday night, according to Perry County Emergency Management director David Searby. Perry County EMA and Du Quoin ESDA want people to keep updated on the weather threat and to plan accordingly as they find out what to expect and when.

Another important tool for people to remember is to have a properly functioning weather alert radio that will alert you to watches and warnings at anytime. They are recommended for home, work and school.

The regular test of the city's storm sirens was conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning in preparation for the start of the annual spring storm season.
