Du Quoin food pick up will be held this Saturday

A Du Quoin girl and her friends will pick up food off of porches all over Du Quoin Saturday morning as part of her community service program to earn a national "Gold Award" from scouting.

Her project is called "Stocking the Shelves This Summer."

Last Saturday, Carlie and friends placed empty shopping sacks on porches across Du Quoin. Residents were asked to place items in the bags and put them on the porch this Saturday. If you didn't get a bag, use your own plastic bag.

"Anyone wishing to help donate to my project, I am in need of WalMart gift cards to help fund both of these projects. Donations can be dropped off at 210 East Main Street," she said.

"Thank you so much for helping me out. It is greatly appreciated."

All collected items will be turned over to the food pantry. The Du Quoin Food Pantry serves over 400 Perry County families each month. The Du Quoin Food Pantry exists to serve as a focal point for churches, community organizations and individuals to provide food aid to families in need. It is located at 314 North Maple Street and is open from 9 a.m. to noon and from 5 to 7 p.m. every Thursday. Donations can be delivered during these times as well. Phone (618) 571-2527.
