Pinckneyville summer lunch program changes format

A group of churches from the Pinckneyville area will again provide a free lunch to anyone wanting to participate. The lunch program will be in a different format this year. A sack lunch will be provided at six different locations in Pinckneyville. This will allow a greater opportunity for lunches to be accessed. The program will operate from June 9 through Aug 14.

Sack lunches will be provided at the following locations from 11 a.m. until 11:20 a.m. Monday through Friday.

United Methodist Church

Victory Addition parking Lot

Diamond Terrace parking Lot

Diamond Town-Upbeat Dance Studio

Fairgrounds Playground area

Knapp's Trailer Court

The menu will be:

Monday -- Sandwich, chips, applesauce, Oreos, juice

Tuesday--Bologna sandwich, chips, fresh fruit, Rice Krispie treat, water

Wednesday--Turkey sandwich, peanut butter crackers, pudding cup, juice

Thursday--Hot dog, chips, fruit, granola bar, water

Friday--Ham sandwich, cheese crackers, fruit cup, cookie, juice

The menu is subject to change. Please check the menu for any problems your child may have with food allergies for any of the items listed.

Thursday- Kay Cheek, First Baptist

Friday- Cathy Keller, Oakgrove Baptist

Caring and Sharing Thrift Shop donated $5,000 to get the program started. This is just one more example of the community services this organization provides. It is estimated the program may cost up to $10,000. If you would like to participate through a donation, please call 357-8773 or send a check to the United Methodist Church with designation to the food program. At least 450 students participate in the free/reduced lunch program in our schools. This need during the summer must be addressed in our community.
